Fauvism

Fauvism is considered one of the first avant-garde movements that began in the early 20th century and Henri Matisse and Andre Derain are famous Fauvists.  Fauvist painters used bold brush strokes and vibrant colours which were often unnatural.  Les Fauves in French means "the wild beasts" and this style of art got its name from a critic.
